The pansy, also known as the viola, is a highly decorative edible flower. Osaka in Japan has adopted it as a city symbol. Pansies have been used as medicinal plants since as far back as the 16th century. It was made into an ointment to treat mild external skin conditions.
In a culinary setting, pansies are primarily used for decoration. They bring a lovely added touch to desserts and drinks.
Pansies are available in blue, yellow, violet and red.
