Marjoram (Origanum majorana), which is most commonly used as seasoning in sausages, belongs to the same family as oregano. To the ancient Greeks, marjoram was a symbol of happiness. Garlands of marjoram were traditionally placed around the necks of newly-wed couples. It contains large quantities of essential oils and thus has a very intense flavour.
Marjoram is used to season sausages, potato dishes, soups, sauces and legumes. As it aids digestion, it is an ideal herb to use in heavy dishes.
Marjoram should be stored at fridge temperature.
