Peppermint (Mentha piperita), also known as red mint, is a cross between spearmint and water mint. As you can already tell from this variety, there are dozens of mint sub-varieties and hybrids. Even ancient peoples were no stranger to its effects. Hippocrates credited mint with having an aphrodisiacal effect, while others praised its ability to relieve pain.
Most people know peppermint from peppermint tea, but it also makes a great addition to desserts, fruit salads and lamb dishes.
Beyond its culinary uses, peppermint also makes a relaxing addition to your bath.
Peppermint should be stored at fridge temperature.
