Thai basil, horapa or sweet basil (Ocimum Basilicum var. thyrsiflora) is an indispensable ingredient in Asian cuisine. It has a completely different flavour to “normal” basil and tastes strongly of anise or liquorice.
Horapa is often used in green or red curries as well as in soups. The herb is not usually cooked as part of the dish, but is added at the end. Thai basil is also ideal for making home-made herb butter.
Just like “normal” basil, it should not be stored in the fridge, but at a temperature of 10-20 °C.
