Lemon thyme (Thymus citriodorus) belongs to the same family as thyme, but it is not a sub-variety. It is completely separate, characterised by its fresh, lemony smell. Lemon thyme originates from Central Europe and can be found primarily in warm countries. In a medicinal context, it is used to treat coughs and other cold symptoms.
In a culinary setting, it complements Mediterranean dishes perfectly. Lemon thyme also lends a fresh flavour to fish and white meat such as poultry.
To enjoy it as a tea, simply add a few leaves to boiling water and leave to steep for 10 minutes.
Lemon thyme should be stored at fridge temperature.
