Garden cress

Garden cress

Garden cress (Lepidium sativum) comes from the Middle East. It has even been found in the tombs of pharaohs, where it had been placed as a burial gift.

It is one of the ingredients used in Frankfurt green sauce and has a slightly peppery flavour, which is reminiscent of mustard and radish. It is primarily the sprouts that are used, which are harvested approximately 1 week after being sown.

Garden cress tastes great with cream cheese or quark-based spreads. It is also a lovely way to round off a salad. Thanks to its small leaves, garden cress looks very pretty as a garnish.

Garden cress should be stored at fridge temperature.
